Davis Program Expected Reading Improvement

Distribution of Reading Gains

Davis Facilitators Lawrence and Stacey Smith tracked the results of 120 consecutive clients who completed the Davis Dyslexia Correction® program at their center, Rocky Point Academy, in Calgary, Canada. The reading level at the beginning and end of the basic five-day program was measured using the Ekwall-Shanker Reading Inventory. Clients ranged in age from 7 to 52.

Reading Improvement by Age

The Smiths' data shows an average improvement of almost 4 full grade levels in reading. One-third of the group showed improvement of 5 or more grade levels, with almost 80% of students showing improvement of at least 3 grade levels.

Results were strongest for individuals age 9 and over; but even the 7 and 8 year olds showed average improvement in excess of two years.

These results are consistent with the anecdotal reports of other Facilitators and of students and their families. Davis providers worldwide have provided dyslexia correction programs to more than 8,000 individuals.

In order to ensure that improvement is maintained over time, it is important for Davis clients to continue to practice the techniques given during the initial program, and to complete the Davis Symbol Mastery® clay modeling tasks. Generally, students continue to show steady progress over time, with significant improvements in writing and spelling following the initial gains in reading.
